Russell M. Nelson is an American religious leader and former heart surgeon who is currently the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). He was born on September 9, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, and is currently 98 years old.
Nelson grew up in a devout Mormon family and had a strong interest in science and medicine from a young age. After serving in the US Army during World War II, he attended the University of Utah, where he received a bachelor’s degree in 1947 and a medical degree in 1951.
